September 11; Day Eleven

I woke up thinking about the word, “whisper”. I really like that word. It evokes all kinds of imagery and emotions.

In one of my favorite movies, “Knight’s Tale”, a character says of another, “…he spent a year in silence just to better understand the sound of a whisper.”  God is spoken of as being in a whisper: “After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.” (1 Kings 19:12)

Whispers can be harsh and menacing when a threat is given secretly. They can be loud and obnoxious when a shout is being disguised as a whisper. Whispers are delightfully sweet when little children share giggling stories. A whisper can be soft and sensuous when spoken close to the ear from a lover.

Good night…she whispers.
